Application of quadrature-based moment methods to the conditional moment closure

چکیده

Two solution algorithms are developed for the conditional moment closure (CMC) using quadrature-based methods (QBMM). Their primary purpose is to eliminate necessity of additional grid conditioning variable (e.g., mixture fraction). As in almost every probability-density-function (PDF)-based description, main technical hurdle molecular-mixing term. Here focus on solving this term coupled with chemistry, as opposed spatial transport. In first algorithm (referred SA-CMC), done by semi-analytically an equation deviation scalar mean terms Jacobi polynomials. The mixture-fraction space represented Gauss–Lobatto quadrature rule and a β-PDF. second QBMM-CMC), closed set differential equations written joint moments fraction, thereby eliminating need assume form PDF. Both tested multi-step H2 combustion, expected results achieved at most six nodes. Since proposed ensured be constant during molecular mixing, it further concluded that accurate, computationally cost-effective, straightforward alternatives traditional CMC methods.

On relation of the Conditional Moment Closure and unsteady Flamelets

We consider the relation of the Conditional Moment Closure (CMC) and the unsteady Flamelet Model (FM). The CMC equations were originally constructed as global equations while FM was asymptotically derived for a thin reaction zone. The recent tendency is to use FM-type equations as global equations. We investigate the possible consequences and suggest a new version of FM – Coordinate-Invariant F...

The Moment of Environmental Ethics the Moment of Drift?

The question of whether architectural creativity is more of an artistic or engineering nature is one with a long history but also one with no conclusive answer. The art camp would argue that technology should be treated as a means towards and end, and that technology alone cannot give meaning to our lives. The engineering camp on the other hand would argue that good problem-solving result...

Some reflections on the efficacy of moment closure methods

In an earlier publication, the authors reported the successful solution of the Fokker-Planck equation by the finite element method for a class of second order systems subjected to both additive and multiplicative white noise excitations, giving a complete picture of the evolution of the transition probability density functions of those systems. More recently, these solutions have been used to d...
